OUTDOOR WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE STILL DIFFICULT FOR VEGETABLES AT THIS TIME OF YEAR.
Why not try your hand at growing some Microgreens? These may be tiny, but they’ve become a huge trend in recent years. They are not cheap but the good news is that it’s easy to grow your own, indoors or out.
WE’LL BE MOVING INTO THE AUTUMN PLANTING SEASON SOON, TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO . . .
Tidy-up the vegetable garden and prepare beds for new crops. This includes QO dolomite where necessary, especially if you intend growing peas or beans, the cabbage family and lettuce.
Keep beds well-mulched to reduce weed growth & erosion from summer storms and to nurture the life in the soil. Add a generous dose of Organic Xtra under each new layer of mulch you apply.
Water when it hasn’t rained & in the cool of day to avoid loss through evaporation (it’s also much more comfy and therapeutic to enjoy the garden as the day draws to a close).
HOW ABOUT A WATERGARDEN?
Edible watergardens are easy to maintain & can produce an abundance of root & leaf crops which will add nutrition & excitement to meals. A watergarden will bring a whole range of new life into the garden – dragonflies, birds, frogs – the plants themselves are very ornamental, nutritious & delicious!
